HOW TO CHANGE YOUNG PEOPLE LIFESTYLES
TRAINING COURSE FOR YOUTH WORKERS
ERASMUS+

From 3rd to 14th May 2024, an international Erasmus+ project titled "How to change the lifestyle of young people?" took place at Holensky dvůr near Jindřichův Hradec. This project welcomed 33 youth workers from 12 European countries who worked together on themes related to improving the lifestyle of the young generation.

Motivating young people towards a healthy lifestyle is a big challenge for us. It is important to talk to young people about healthy lifestyles openly and empathetically and to respect their choices. It is always important to take into account that each person is unique and what works for one person may not work for another.

1. Role modelling: young people often copy the behaviour of their parents, older siblings, teachers, friends. We try to be a good role model for them, they can take inspiration from us.

2. Fun. We organise activities that are both fun and healthy: sports games, outdoor activities, painting or cooking healthy meals together.

3. Education: Young people need to understand why a healthy lifestyle is important.

Offer them information about the benefits of healthy eating, regular exercise and getting enough sleep. We use books, articles and documentaries on these issues. We use apps on phones.

4. Young people need support and encouragement. We praise them for their achievements on the road to a healthier lifestyle and encourage them when they encounter difficulties.

5. Involvement in decision-making: We give young people the opportunity to be involved in decisions about their healthy lifestyle. This gives them a sense of control and responsibility.

6. Social support: we encourage the formation of social links with other young people interested in a healthy lifestyle. Groups, teams or clubs focused on sports, fitness or other healthy activities help create a positive climate.

7 Realistic goals: We help them set realistic goals and expectations. Unnecessary pressure to be perfect is demotivating.

8. Healthy cooking and eating: We teach them how to cook healthy meals and how to make balanced food choices. Interesting recipes and cooking together are a great way to learn more about healthy eating.

9. Competitions and challenges: we organise healthy competitions and challenges to motivate them. For example, a monthly exercise challenge or a competition to make healthy fruit and vegetable salads.

10. Personal growth: We help them discover their personal motivations for a healthy lifestyle. What is important to them? Improved physical fitness, better school performance, increased self-esteem?
